01

Project Overview

This project applied fluorescence-based fiber optic temperature sensing to a 110 kV oil-immersed transformer.

Fiber optic temperature probes were installed at selected internal measurement points during transformer assembly. The sensors provide direct temperature measurement inside the transformer, with signals transmitted through optical fibers to the external monitoring equipment.

The system provides continuous online temperature monitoring during transformer operation.

02

Monitoring Requirement

The project required direct temperature measurement at selected internal locations of the transformer.

The monitoring arrangement needed to operate inside a high-voltage oil-immersed environment while maintaining electrical isolation between the sensing points and external monitoring equipment.

Temperature data also needed to be continuously available for transformer condition monitoring.

03

Fiber Optic Monitoring Solution

Fluorescence-based fiber optic temperature probes were positioned at selected internal transformer measurement points.

Optical fibers transmit the sensing signals from the internal probes to the external temperature monitoring instrument.

The complete monitoring arrangement includes:

  • Internal fiber optic temperature probes
  • Optical fiber connections
  • Transformer fiber optic penetrator
  • External temperature monitoring instrument
  • Online temperature display and monitoring
04

Internal Measurement & Optical Connection

The fiber optic probes were installed at selected internal temperature measurement locations before final transformer assembly.

Optical fibers were routed from the sensing points to the transformer tank wall and connected through dedicated fiber optic penetrators.

The external optical connections link the internal sensors to the temperature monitoring equipment without introducing electrical sensor wiring into the transformer measurement points.

05

Online Monitoring & System Integration

The external monitoring instrument continuously acquires temperature data from the installed fiber optic sensors.

Individual measurement channels can be monitored separately through the temperature monitoring interface.

Temperature information can be used for local monitoring and can also be integrated with the transformer or substation monitoring system according to the project communication configuration.

06

Project Result

The completed system provides continuous direct temperature monitoring at selected internal locations of the 110 kV oil-immersed transformer.

Internal fiber optic sensors, tank-wall penetrators and external monitoring equipment form a complete optical temperature measurement path from the transformer interior to the online monitoring interface.

The installation provides a practical configuration for direct internal temperature monitoring of oil-immersed power transformers.
